Field-Joint Coating Materials

Injection Moulded Polyurethane (IMPU)

Ideal for deepwater pipelines but also shallow water pipelines in artic conditions, Injection Moulded Polyurethane (IMPU) coatings provide insulation and protection to pipeline field joints. IMPU is a 100% solid polyurethane (SPU) coating that uses a chemically curable material injected into the mold's cavity. The infill material is typically a two-component urethane chemical. The IMPU process involves a rapid cure time, enabling shorter cycle times for increased production versus typical coating cooling times.

IMPU Equipment

SPU/IMPU coatings can be spray- or brush- applied to pipes, bends, fittings, and field-joints for thermal insulation or in-situ coating of assemblies such as jumpers, sleds, PLETs, FLETs, ITAs and manifolds. The application process is also suitable for reel-lay, J-lay, and S-lay installation methods for deep water pipelines at depths up to 3,000 m.
