Offshore Pipeline Welding

Offshore Pipeline Capabilities

RAE’s worldwide scope of offshore pipelaying operations extends to new construction projects such as subsea flowlines, risers, jumper spools, and export lines. We offer a complete range of welding services for pipelay installation methods, whether it be reel-lay, S-lay, or J-lay, with services performed at a spoolbase or vessel.

Industry Solutions

We address these challenges through customized solutions that apply the appropriate welding techniques and materials. Welding techniques specific for the oil and gas pipeline include:

 

  • J-beveling with automated welding systems for a more uniform bonding layer, completed faster, and with less material.
  • Extensive experience with reel-lay applications which require special attention to the compatibility of the reeling process with the pipeline steel grade and the appropriate welding process being used to ensure a high-quality weld.
  • J-lay applications which entail a vertical welding configuration and quad jointing for lower stress on the pipeline and increased speed of pipelaying.
  • S-lay
  • Double-Jointing & Multi-Jointing utilizing manual or automated welding systems. Our modular welding kit enables us to create a double-joint segment at a spoolbase, fabrication yard, or customer-preferred shop.
  • Tie-in welding procedures utilizing automated welding systems can be produced on even the highest grade materials and wall thickness.
  • Weld overlay cladding techniques for pipe-in-pipe (PIP), line pipe, and spool piece fabrication products is used to provide a corrosive- or wear-resistant metal alloy when corrosive gases must be handled. Cladding is also an ideal welding method for spool pieces.
  • Complex and high-spec applications, like Steel Catenary Risers (SCR), require extensive engineering of the welding procedure and qualification testing.
